The app remains a world-class resource with location based weather details so hunters can get important information where they are or where they need it.

There was no denying that PETA opposes hunting. Now the animal rights group also is on record urging people to violate laws-make that hunter harassment laws.

Hunters in Arizona continue to prove to the critics that voluntary efforts to conserve endangered wildlife do work, often better than mandated measures. In the last five years, 80 to 90 percent of hunters in Arizona's condor range have taken measures to reduce the amount of spent lead ammunition that is available to California condors.

One of the most critical tools a hunter possesses is scouting. Time and effort expended on scouting trips have more than paid off in the large quantities of meat currently stocked in my freezer; in fact, I believe scouting is the single most important aspect of hunting that keeps the “upper hand” firmly attached to our wrists, so to speak. Without knowledge of animal movement, including times of day, active areas and even factors that affect movement, i.e.

Fall is finally here, bringing with it endless opportunities to venture beyond paved roads in search of great outdoor adventures. For many of us, that outdoor adventure leads us straight into the whitetail woods!

If the object of turkey hunting was to completely blow your hunt, my turkey hunting resume would read much like a photo negative of Eddie Salter's credits. Blowing a turkey hunt, in the beginning, was not foreign to me; in fact, I was quite adept at getting busted. Prepare yourself for a humorous yet truthful look at what NOT to do when you're turkey hunting. Trust me; if failing is your game, I am your kind of guide! Seriously, the success I now experience in the field is purely based on learning from the train wrecks I created in previous hunts.

Hogs are a peculiar animal.  They do what they want, when they want, and how they want to do it.  Hunters scarcely see another animal as difficult to pattern as a wild hog; trying to pattern them generally results in a great loss of hair, dignity, and respect among hunting buddies who already understand that patterning is almost futile… ALMOST.  

Years ago, my son, Jacob coined the phrase “hoggy.” At three years old he was merely observing the fog on his way to pre-school while to me it took on a completely different meaning (grinning). As an avid hog hunter I adopted his phrase and made it my own as a means of describing places I considered to be “Hog Heaven.”

Youth turkey hunters have the annual opportunity to head to the woods a few days earlier than other hunters during the youth turkey season, slated this year for March 31-April 1 in most of the state and April 21-22 in the southeast region.
