The late 1800s were the dark ages for our nation’s wildlife. As the pioneers moved westward and unregulated hunting and habitat loss became rampant, we almost lost elk, deer, pronghorns, wild turkeys, Canada geese, wood ducks and trumpeter swans forever. While many people have heard that story, few realize it was hunters who came together to restore our wildlife populations.
