We recently had a chance to sit down with Allen Gottlieb from the Second Amendment Foundation and get the straight scoop about the gun related legislation — Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013 (S. 649) —pending in the Senate. This is a short notice call, but New York sportsman need your help. New York legislators will vote tomorrow to give hunters a dedicated crossbow season. This benefits many types of hunters from the aging to disabled to those simply looking to expand their season and spend a few extra days in the field.

Whether you are looking to fill the freezer or just a pre-deer season tune up, hogs are a ton of fun to hunt. Add to that a higher quota and the potential to hunt for free and you can only be talking about the wonderful folks from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). And just why would they up the quotas and lower the fees? Because the areas are over run which ups your odds bagging a tusker!

To hunt in Texas you will need to have passed a hunter education course if you were born on or after September 2, 1971 and carry proof of certification while hunting.

Texas Hunter Education Certification

A Texas hunting license is required, regardless of the hunter’s age, if they are hunting animals, birds, frogs or turtles.  The exception is that no license is needed for depredating hogs or coyotes.

Hunting licenses are available for purchase at 1,700 locations.  You may also purchase a license via phone or Internet.  There is a $5 administrative fee for this service. For decades now, hunter numbers have seen a decline and perceived political correctness has caused a decline in the public’s perception of hunting. Well, that seems to be changing. Whether it is a true shift or simple a result of gun control advocate’s rhetoric, I’ll chalk up the “W” and smile all the way.

Who is better qualified to judge the need for new legislation regarding the ownership of firearms and accessories than front line law enforcement officers? Colorado Sheriffs have threatened new lawsuits and vowed to not enforce current legislation, and others are sure to follow.
